A couple days ago ABC O&O’s (owned and operated) launched a new website template/design. See one at http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/ They feature a larger video player that has some YouTube-like functionality. Although, I think some users may struggle with the functionality of the player.  The Spot Center is interesting; we’ll have to see what more they do with it.

This comes a few weeks after ABCNews.com launched a new design.

Experimentation being the key word.  It’s a good thing, and may attract a new audience if done right.

Executives at the broadcast networks know they have opportunities online that they do not have on television — namely, to take chances by testing new forms of news delivery and new types of storytelling. They are also mindful that making their content relevant online is a good way to attract the younger audiences who are less likely to tune in to the evening news on television.
